Unbreak my Heart,USA…

Late night ramblings….Toni Braxton’s video “Unbreak my heart” –ahem.  I’ve listened to this song as cathartic during a breakup with a man.  But now I am thinking of the man as our country and the car that hit the man in the video as the Trump administration.  And Toni Braxton as me.   {Disclaimer:  I’m not trying to belittle the seriousness of this tragedy or anyone who has experienced a tragedy such as this or losing someone as portrayed in the video or the true heartbreak experienced breaking up with a true love.  So please don’t take it personally.}  The metaphor is there.  Remember Tyson Beckford (the man) is the spirit of the USA and the car that hit him is the Trump administration.  And that’s me as Toni Braxton getting screwed by the government over and over. But still believing in the American dream.  😀 😀

And so after returning from the Women’s March on Saturday…feel completely renewed and inspired and happy. I cannot describe the feeling of just being in that moment and experiencing solidarity and true history in the making marching for a great cause such as women’s rights and against those who choose to desecrate all that we have worked for.

What a trip driving through the night like Paul Revere :

So through the night rode Paul Revere;
And so through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,—
A cry of defiance, and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a word that shall echo for evermore!
For, borne on the night-wind of the Past,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere.

(Wadsworth, 1861)

After driving all night through the Allegheny mountains and then marching all day with more people than I’ve ever been around in my life I was truly overwhelmed.  Everyone was super cool and super nice including law enforcement.  The only time the march got tense is when Trump supporters came through with a Trump float left over from the inauguration which read “Women for Trump” or something to that effect.  People started getting fired up.  At that point a bunch of cops swarmed in from nowhere and it was over.   But the crowd was deafening.

Some of my favorite chants from Saturday:

“We need a leader! not a creepy tweeter!”

“Whose Streets?” “Our Streets!”

“Tell me what Democracy Looks Like!”  “This is what Democracy Looks Like!”

“202-224-3121” (This is the phone number for Congress)

So of course on the first business day since the Women’s March Trump administration targets women’s programs and other things not related to draining the swamp he promised and creating jobs.  He’s doing so much crap right now I can’t even keep up.

All of these people showed up and stood out and now we are supposed to call and petition and write and do all this stuff that is going to take a lot of time and effort.  It almost seems futile as the new administration is seriously eroding our freedoms and blocking pathways to democracy such as blocking telephone numbers and other essential pathways as communication to our representatives.  Don’t they understand they work for us?!  It’s truly becoming something I never thought I’d see in my lifetime.

A lot of folks are talking saying the GOP will get what they want then impeach Trump and put their real golden child Pence up for play.  I don’t see this happening however.  I think they still continue to keep Trump in power and use him overtly and covertly to accomplish their many goals.  In the end, Trump will probably declare martial law during some point in his presidency and we will all be subject to search and seizure without warrant or merit.

It leads me to somewhat feeling like this song below is me singing to the USA and accepting the fact that the next 4 years our true potential as a country is going to be corrupted.  Kevin Costner is the USA in this realizing what he’s lost.. 😀 😀 D: D: See how America runs back towards me at the end wanting me. Ok, it’s a stretch–but it’s realizing sometimes love isn’t enough and sometimes you can’t be together.

Whitney Houston, what a voice.

Also, this.   This song is my olive branch to the true country which is essentially just ourselves.  WE the people.  Even if we’re crazy and too idealistic.  Ok that was partly just an excuse to post more Whitney.

So what do we do now?  I’ve asked this and no one has a solid answer other than call and fight.  That’s important but I also think we continue to live our lives.  But we live them better than before.  We don’t give in.  We don’t become complacent and we still accept those that differ from us because we fight for their freedom as well as our own even if they do not respect or acknowledge or realize it.  We do the things that are cumbersome and boring and intrusive but we do them anyway because we have to do something.  We need to search out more truth in our lives whether that be discovering more about true history or cultural biases or learning about different ways towards truth.  We should look to see how we can be of service to others.  How will this stop trump?  Well, it may not stop his administration and their goals but they will not be able to infiltrate us if we keep our heads up, keep our morale strong, and keep our hearts open and willing to give and contribute.  Also, we must take care of ourselves.  Since we will expend so much of our energies being advocates we must nurture our own inner desires and creativity so as said by the wise Mahatma Gandhi,“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
